What happened at Presidents Conference…
Presidents conference as an observer is an interesting place. You get to hear the presidents discuss issues in their locals and find out they are not alone in facing those issues. You also cannot vote on issues because you’re an observer but you can be apart of the discussion and the courses and the networking make being in plenary completely worth the 5 hour drive and the long days.
This is the first in person Presidents Conference since the pandemic measures lifted and it there was a lot of acceptance of people taking precautions and wearing their masks and people who have taken other precautions and not wearing masks. We still followed all health and safety guidelines as we met people, shared ideas and learned in discussing the structural issues facing us all. The Union of Taxation Employees understands that training and learning for the stewards and executives is paramount if we want strong union leadership. and it was wonderful to finally be able to do this in person.
The long hours in the plenary and classroom didn’t mean there was no fun. Team building is often based in fun and going out for dinner together and sharing moments where we desperately looked for the closest Tim Hortons brings our team closer together and better able to face the challenges ahead.
